First
Good write up.
Will also point out that two new aquisitions, Turris and Barrie, while they were not completely terrible, they were more bad than good.
The PP with Barrie on it looked very discombobulated. It's going to take the PP awhile to adjust and frankly may just not work well with him on it. At least not work to the extent it did last year I should clarify. |

The powerplay from last season essentially have played together for the past three full seasons. Chemistry takes time. |

The Oilers have very good offense but still lack a solid defense. They over-rate their defensemen but in reality their #1 paring is only at best a weak second pairing while the rest are 6, 7 and 8 d-men on most teams. Until this is addressed there will be a lot of high scoring defeats in the Oilers future. |

Somewhat agreed. Nurse, Bear and Barrie would be in top 4 on most teams. They certainly are not elite but I am confident in at least that much.
With that being said... I don't really see anyone in the North having a high end D-core.
Calgary and Winnipeg used to have one of the better ones but some decline in play (Gio, Brodie and harmonic) last year resulted in some moves and also Gio being another year older. Similarly in Winnipeg Buff is out and Trouba and Myers went elsewhere. |

It’s not rust. They look the same as always. Inconsistent up front. Nothing from the bottom 6. Defence prone to big mistakes and goaltending awful. That is who this team is. - TurdFergeson

That line was really good, JLO will disagree because Draisaitl (frank)ed his wife, but they cycled the puck well and created the most opportunities.
I'd give Puljujarvi a shot on the top line with McDavid. He seems to be willing to go along the boards and battle for pucks, which is something you didn't see often the first time.
Larsson is really bad. Three goals I blame on him. People are hating on Koskinen, but in reality he was at fault for MAYBE one goal (the 5th one). |

Shake harder next time. Oiler forwards did they’re best to make Holtby feel good.
One thing I noticed watching the game last night, for as good as Draisaitl is offensively. He gives up a lot defensively.
Why do they keep trying to make a bottom 6 forward onto McDavids wing man. There’s got to be a better choice. If I was Conner I’d be like “are you kidding me?” |

I've seen people say that McDavid asked for Kassian on his wing, which is confusing to me. |

As McD is the captain, I imagine its to try and calm Kass down while on the bench.

I’ll also add that I thought I saw JPon the second power play. It’s a good sign to see that Tippett has that level of trust in him and giving him that leash. I won’t be surprised if he shows well and a spot opens up in the top six that he will be given a chance. |
